Kaba Case Study - Goodrich Aerostructures

AutoTime and SAP R/3:  A Perfect Fit for Goodrich Aerostructures

AUTOTIME

Background

Goodrich Corporation, a Fortune 500 company, is a global supplier of systems and services to the aerospace and defense markets. The Goodrich Aerostructures Group expertly builds on this operating history of nearly 140 years, a relationship that parallels the tradition, expertise and experience that Kaba Workforce Solutions brings from the Kaba Group, a 145 year old leader in the security industry.Goodrich Aerostructures, the largest division of Goodrich Corporation, made a strategic decision to replace their existing legacy data collection system with SAP R/3. The implementation would cover six large facilities, four in North America and two in Europe. In total close to 5,000 employees would be incorporated into the new solution.
From the beginning Goodrich Aerostructures established an extremely aggressive “go live” date for all modules to be up and running. With just a year from start to finish it had to be done right the first time.

Challenge

Shortly after Goodrich began mapping out all the requirements it was determined that it would need to complement SAP R/3 with a robust shop floor data collection system. This system would need to provide real time visibility of labor against projects, and production orders, as well as be able to calculate gross pay. Their existing system, which had been custom developed over twenty plus years of use, had been fine tuned to meet precise requirements. The new solution would be required to:

  • Provide real time labor collection and costing
  • Capture multiple, simultaneous labor events
  • Allow for group labor reporting
  • Configure to complex union and work rules (Payroll)
  • Support multiple clients (e.g., RF, PCs, Shop Floor)
  • Create a net audit trail for the DCAA

Solution

The Goodrich team evaluated several options in the marketplace prior to reaching a unanimous conclusion: Kaba Workforce Solutions’ AutoTime 6 was the only one that could meet Goodrich’s demanding functional requirements. Among the key AutoTime attributes was that it had a proven and stable bi-directional SAP R/3 interface to Production Planning, Project Systems, and Plant Maintenance modules

“None of the other time and labor shop floor systems came close to AutoTime in terms of functionality for complex labor and connectivity to SAP R/3. Furthermore, we received tremendous support from the Kaba Workforce Solutions’ team that ensured that the AutoTime implementation came in on time and on budget.”
George Scarcelli, Director

Eight months later Goodrich Aerostructures went live with SAP R/3 and AutoTime, in one of the largest, most complex implementations in the Aerospace and Defense market space.
