Needs Certified Interface to Make Installation as Easy as Pie
MIRAMAR, FL. – Sept. 14, 2004 – Kaba Workforce
Solutions, the North American operating subsidiary of $800 million
Kaba Holding AG and worldwide leader in time and labor management
systems, today announced that VICORP Restaurants, Inc. is
implementing its B-COMM™ time and attendance and labor reporting
software for SAP® solutions at its bakery facilities in California,
Illinois and Minnesota.
B-COMM™ time and attendance/labor reporting software for the SAP
R/3® software solution links Kaba Benzing terminals and other
hardware data devices to SAP R/3 Enterprise. It automates and
validates the collection of employee and labor data for entry into
mySAP™ Human Resources (mySAP™ HR), the time management application,
and other SAP applications.
"We purchased B-COMM™ for SAP solutions because it has a certified
interface to SAP and we are a strong SAP customer," explains Greg
Hansen, Director of Application Development at VICORP. "Kaba Benzing
is also working with us to implement B-COMM™ on a fast track because
support for our previous timekeeping software has ended."
Using B-COMM™ for SAP lets VICORP leverage even more of the
functionality of SAP, which it has invested in heavily over the past
five years. Hansen said VICORP was impressed with Kaba Benzing's
solid relationship with SAP and that was a factor in the company's
decision to go with B-COMM.
VICORP will use B-COMM™ for SAP solutions to track labor costs at
its three pie manufacturing facilities, which produce 12 million
pies a year in 34 varieties for its own restaurants and for
foodservice and retail sales.
"We're integrating B-COMM™ into SAP so we can report labor costs
in real time and become more efficient," Hansen reports. "Our former
application only allowed for weekly reporting of labor but, with
B-COMM™ for SAP solutions, we will receive daily reports. This way,
we will be able to better monitor and control labor
costs."
Eventually VICORP wants to expand the use of B-COMM™ for
SAP solutions to collect production information on the shop floor
via Kaba Benzing's touchscreen terminals. That is a project the
company is considering for 2005.
"Right now, people are manually collecting production actuals and
someone sits at a computer typing the information in manually,"
Hansen says. "By bar coding our inventory and automating the entry
of production confirmations, we could more accurately report actual
raw material use, and improve inventory accuracy. That would also
reduce the amount of manual labor used today to enter production
actuals."
VICORP will be using one Kaba 9220 terminal and eight Kaba 9360
terminals with battery back-up at its pie manufacturing facilities.
Both models include proximity card readers.

data maintenance takes place in the SAP solution.
