AutoTime Interfaces with Oracle, Baan and Legacy
Systems at 16 Dana Facilities
MIRAMAR, FL. -April 8, 2003- Kaba Benzing, a subsidiary of $690
million Kaba Holding AG and worldwide leader in time and labor
management systems, today announced that 16 Dana facilities
employing over 6,500 people collect time and labor data and provide
labor accounting functionality with the company's AutoTime time and
labor management system. The corporation began using AutoTime in
1999, when the Dana-Spicer Off-Highway Products Division in
Statesville, NC, was tasked with identifying a single time and labor
management solution that would satisfy the needs of their own
manufacturing facility and serve as a pilot program for other Dana
divisions, each with unique requirements.
"We were especially looking for a system that would not force us
to use start and stop times,” states Don McMunn, accounting manager
at Dana-Spicer Off-Highway Products. “It was difficult to make total
time add up to eight hours. By providing only one screen, AutoTime
made it easier to input data."
According to McMunn, "Only six weeks after selecting AutoTime, we
were up and running. We've virtually eliminated errors and have
reduced our time to do payroll by 50 percent. With AutoTime, we can
design our own reports by simply using its browser to create any
type of report. For example, we can break down absenteeism, shop
orders, and vacation time in a manner similar to making a data
query. Supervisors on the shop floor can look at past time, vacation
time banks and personal time banks at the click of a mouse."
In Statesville, the AutoTime and Oracle systems are both accessed
through PCs evenly distributed throughout the 500,000 square foot
shop. Employees have the option of entering their labor records
several times a day, at the end of the day or, in some cases,
weekly, depending on what the employee's duties are. Those that
handle different events report more frequently throughout the day;
those that do the same job throughout the week only need to enter
their information weekly. Both direct and indirect labor are
recorded.
Today, throughout Dana's 16 facilities, AutoTime collects labor
and applies it against multiple jobs on multiple machines. Since
each facility has a unique manufacturing profile, including work
rules that vary widely and are sometimes exceedingly complex,
AutoTime handles both simple and complex work and pay rules for
Dana. Employees need only make one entry per transaction. Most
importantly for Dana, AutoTime is Oracle-certified and interfaces
with their Oracle Manufacturing system seamlessly while also
interfacing with other legacy systems throughout the
corporation.
"We continue to count on Kaba Benzing," reports McCunn. "We
recently had to split payroll into two categories and Kaba Benzing
came up with the way to do it. We also look forward to upgrading to
their new web version."
