Saves Sypris Electronics Supervisors Time
Verifying time reporting for hourly employees can be a
time-consuming operation, especially when your customer is the
Department of Defense, which is very demanding regarding accurate
record-keeping. As a result of implementing Kaba Workforce Solutions
AutoTime Workforce Management system in 1999, supervisors at Sypris
Electronics verify an employee’s time report in less than 60 seconds
on an average day. Sypris Electronics (Tampa, Fla.) is a recognized
market leader providing electronics manufacturing services,
engineering design and software solutions to the Department of
Defense and major aerospace and defense prime contractors.
“We originally implemented AutoTime to replace an older system
for Y2K concerns,” reports Ahmad Dejam, database system staff leader
at Sypris Electronics. “As a result of installing AutoTime, we pass
only accurate data into our Baan 4.34 system and error-free pay
information onto our Cyborg payroll system. AutoTime is also faster
and easier for our supervisors to use, saving them time. Daily, each
supervisor must check the time reports of the 30 to 50 hourly
employees who report to him or her. On the average day, our
supervisors verify all time reports in less than half an hour.”
Of the 1,000 employees at Sypris Electronics, approximately 250
hourly employees and 70 engineers report their time through
AutoTime.
Implementation in less than a month. When AutoTime was
implemented, Sypris Electronics was already using Baan. Since
AutoTime interfaces with Baan and supports bi-directional data
transmission that validates and prevents errors at the interface
level, implementation of AutoTime was completed within 3.5 weeks.
The Baan/AutoTime interface retrieves information from Baan that is
needed to process and charge on against such elements as production
order, work center, task definition, machine definition, big
projects, PCS projects, contract charge numbers (CCN), project
activities, standard cost objects and project cost objects.
AutoTime will also report job activities and associated costs
back to the Baan system through Production Order Time Reporting,
Production Order Material Movement Reporting and Project Time
Reporting. At Sypris Electronics, AutoTime is used for time and
attendance and labor collection.
To meet certain Sypris
Electronics business rules, Kaba Workforce Solutions tweaked some
items to assure compatibility.
“For instance,” Dejam remembers, “we use alphanumeric Workforce
Management reporting while Baan uses just digits. These and some
other small changes were made to assure we had seamless integration
between systems.”
According to Dejam, Sypris Electronics
employees are comfortable with the AutoTime system.
“I would recommend AutoTime to
other Baan users,” Dejam attests.
